INTERVIEW.
Here is an interview I did for Trendsetter Magazine back in December.

Could you introduce yourself?
I am Way$hak. I draw and paint. I am normal.

Tell us a little about your background…
Grew up in the San Francisco bay area. I've mainly been inspired by the cartoons of my youth, like Robotech, Transformers, Manzinger...mostly stuff with a technological theme. I didn't have a lot of friends in my youth, so I had a lot of free time. I'd draw just to pass the day, and it kind of developed into what you see today. That's where this all got started.

How would you describe the Jonnywedge style?
The “jonnywedge” styles? Shit man. Things have been constantly evolving, thank god. The last thing I want to do is remains stagnant. I do have certain themes i work with, and they kind of stick around. The styles itself, hopefully, progresses naturally and serves the content of my pieces.

What influences you? In both art and life…
The world around me influences me. That's where I get my inspirations. Mainly, it's the few people I interact with, my random thoughts, and a lot of music. I'd say musicians and bands get me more excited about working than looking at paintings or drawings. Not only the songs themselves but their work ethic and ideals behind the creation of my favorite records. Steve Albini of Big Black/Rapeman/Shellac is one such person.

You are just one of the most talented artists in this world for me…
what do you think about yourself? Do you found yourself talented too?

Thank you for the compliment. You are obviously a man of good taste. However, I am not talented. It's hard for me to do this shit. I don't think i draw very well, I just work hard and very often. That's all there is to it. Let's put it this way, I'm not a fan of my work.

Regarding new technology about illustration? Because digital art is becoming most popular this days…
The future belongs to the analog loyalists...Fuck digital.” I think that quote comes fr Steve Albini, but i could be wrong about that. Digital coloring is for sissies. It's not “painting,” kids...it's “coloring.” Posers, yo!

What is the weirdest story from your past?
I can't think of one. My life is quite dull. I kind of stay at home all day and draw. There was the time I saw the muscle woman and her boyfriend the paraplegic hanging out in Italy. I was quite interested in that. My life sucks.

What do you think about creativity?
It's more important than knowing how to draw.

What do you remembering about your childhood?
The little red-headed girlie that used to pinch the fuck out of me at recess. She was a strong little bitch. I totally had a crush on her.

What are your plans for the future?
There is no future.

What do you think of turkey?
When my grandfather was a teenager, the Turks invaded Syria, and started killing off all of the male children. So my grandfather had to go into hiding up in the hills. There's a picture of him with a rifle up in the hills somewhere. That is about all I know about Turkey.
