What medium(s) do use for your oils during these sketches? I’ve been trying liquin. It smells like the underside of a chemical vat, but it seems to keep the paint wet enough to spread, and dries them fast enough to allow more paint to be added without making too much of a muddy mess.

I switch all the time. Mostly a mix of galkyd, stand oil, and mineral spirits.
